Birmingham Newman University held its 2025 graduation ceremony at the ICC in Birmingham, honouring the achievements of students from a wide range of courses.

Among the graduates was Anna Rothera, who completed a Professional Policing Degree and has become the first Birmingham Newman University PPD student to become a full-time police officer, now serving as a constable with West Midlands Police.

Jo Beard earned a First Class Honours in BA Early Childhood Studies and described the university as a transformative place.

Ms Beard said: “Birmingham Newman University was where my passion for early years really came to life.

“I was surrounded by passionate peers and inspirational lecturers who helped me overcome lots of self-doubt.

“I will always have a Birmingham Newman shaped spot in my heart.”

She now works for the NHS, applying both her academic training and practical skills.

Joshua Robinson, who graduated with a BSc in Sports Coaching, recalled helping to organise a Mini Olympics for schoolchildren during his studies.

Mr Robinson said: “My time at Newman University has been an incredible journey full of opportunities to learn, grow and get involved in the community.”

He has secured a place on the Graduate Business Management Programme at Wates Group, one of just 71 selected from more than 8,000 applicants.

Other standout stories include Amarpreet Kaur Mandier, who earned First Class Honours in Working with Children, Young People and Families despite a late-diagnosed learning disability and is now pursuing a PGCE.

Chantelle Wright graduated with a First in Early Childhood Education and plans to study for a master’s in criminal studies, with the goal of working with young offenders.

Carris Strong also achieved First Class Honours in Early Childhood Education while working full-time and now looks forward to exploring new roles in the sector.

All graduates spoke of the university’s supportive community and the life-changing impact it has had on their personal and professional development.
