A top Manchester restaurant has unveiled the ‘world’s most expensive’ sushi roll that features caviar and truffle.

Australian-inspired sushi concept Rolled first opened its doors at the Trafford Centre last summer offering their hand rolls to the masses. They also have a kiosk in the Manchester Arndale as well as a stall in the Market Place Food Hall in London’s St Paul’s district.

Based in Manchester and founded by Australian brothers Adam and JJ Miller, the concept takes inspiration from the ‘new sushi’ handroll trend originated in Melbourne with a menu featuring the likes of Shrimp on the Barbie, Crispy Chicken & Avo, Tempura Eggplant and Bondi Rolls.

The concept of the store came to life when Adam visited Japan a few years ago and realised that handrolls were not a thing there – later discovering that the chopstick-free alternatives had instead been introduced in his home country back in the 90s.

But, their newest menu addition won’t be up to everyone’s taste – or wallets. The brothers have introduced a new Golden Roll, which they have hailed as ‘the most premium handroll in the world’. It just so happens to come with an eyewatering price tag of £1,000.

The ‘fancy, shiny and expensive’ creation features Koshihikari Rice, which is four times more expensive than regular sushi rice, as well as freshly harvested white truffles and premium Kobe beef.

It is also made up of Yamamoto Nori seaweed, hailing from the Ariake sea in Japan, which costs ten times more than the standard nori version. As if that’s not enough, it’s then wrapped up with gold leaf and topped with Beluga grade 000 premium Caviar. The pair hailed it as being ‘certified roll goals’.

Describing the creation, JJ said: “We take our sushi seriously – it’s the heart of everything we do. With the Golden Roll, we wanted to see how far we could push the boundaries of craftsmanship.

“Every ingredient had to be the best in the world, otherwise it didn’t belong in the roll. This is our philosophy with all of our rolls.”

Rolled will be giving two epople the chance to visit one of of their three locations across Manchester and London to try their £1,000 roll completely for free. To be in with a chance of being selected, you will need to tag a friend in their post on Instagram.

Previously speaking of the Rolled concept, Adam said: “Aussies are obsessed with this type of sushi. It’s not unusual to consume hand-rolls multiple times a week.”

Rolled was one of the launch vendors at the Market Place food hall in London, situated opposite St Paul’s Cathedral, when it first opened earlier this year. The owners of the food hall will be bringing their concept to Manchester in 2027 as part of plans to revive the city’s Rylands building on Market Street, which was formerly home to Debenhams.
