Brendan Rodgers’ exit from Celtic was brutal.
Dermot Desmond didn’t mince his words, and he made his feelings clear on the Treble-winning Celtic coach, but now he is tasked with bringing in a new face.
Danny Murphy played at the highest level, including winning trophies at Liverpool, and he knows what it’s like when there is a change of manager from a player’s perspective.
But when Murphy was told that Wilfried Nancy could become Celtic’s next manager, he wasn’t so sure and shared his doubts.

Celtic have gone left-field before. The reaction to Ange Postecoglou’s appointment in 2021 resulted in many people having egg on their faces.
The J-League coach didn’t just win the title back for Celtic, but he also went on to win the Treble and write his name into the club’s legendary books.
But with suggestions that another appointment of that kind could be made, Murphy told talkSPORT he would be ‘surprised’ if the powers that be give it the green light.
Murphy expressed how it’s a ‘massive change of culture and expectation’ for Nancy, from being a coach in the MLS to having to manage a club like Celtic.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy added that you can have whatever you want on your CV; it all comes down to how you present yourself to the players.
“It’s a risk, I mean, any appointment is a risk,” said Murphy. “But it’s a big ask to go from managing over there to a size of the club like Celtic, with no affiliation to the club and understanding of it.
“I suppose you could argue on the flip side, without all of that historical knowledge, if you like and bond with the club. You are just fully focused on the job in hand, you go clean slate. I don’t know.
“The reputation of a manager or his CV only takes you so far with the group of guys. It can give you respect, obviously, for a certain amount of time.
“But if the coaching isn’t great. The results aren’t great, and you’re not on board. That soon dissipates.
“I would be surprised if Celtic takes that much of a gamble on somebody over there – it’s a massive change of culture and expectation.”
