Baleba started as the Indomitable Lions faced DR Congo in their play-off semi-final on Thursday.

Having been booked in the first half, though, the 21-year-old was taken off at half-time before his side conceded a stoppage time winner.

The result ends Cameroon’s hopes of qualifying for next summer’s finals in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

It would have been a fourth appearance in five tournaments after reaching the World Cup in 2010, 2014 and 2022.

The play-off defeat came in Baleba’s 11th cap, having made his senior international debut last summer.

Cameroon are set to return to action at the Africa Cup of Nations next month.

Following Thursday’s defeat, Baleba has now taken to social media to share a message.

He re-shared a post to his Instagram story showing his former Brighton team-mate Joao Pedro alongside a motivational quote.

The snap shows Pedro celebrating scoring for Chelsea following his summer move from the Seagulls.

Alongside the image, the caption reads: “Don’t try rush what God is taking time to prepare.”

His post comes just months after Manchester United showed considerable interest in a move for Baleba.

The Red Devils had emerged as a possible destination during the summer transfer window.

However, their interest cooled after Brighton slapped a £115million price tag on the former Lille man.

Baleba still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, with the club holding the option to extend it through to 2029.

Following the transfer speculation, Baleba made a slow start to the new season for Fabian Hurzeler’s side.

The first seven Premier League matches of the season saw him withdrawn at half-time on three separate occasions.
