A vehicle has been destroyed following an arson attack in Londonderry on Saturday evening.

Police said the car was targeted in the Ballymagroarty area of the city.

They said an investigation is now underway.

PSNI Chief Inspector Cathal Pearce said: “We received a report at approximately 11.10pm on Saturday, 15th November that a car had been set alight in the Merriman Court area.

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service who extinguished the blaze.

“Thankfully, no injuries were reported, however, extensive damage was caused to the front of the vehicle as a result of the fire, which is being treated as arson.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who might have been in the area on Saturday evening or who saw anyone acting suspiciously, particularly two persons who were in the area on an electric scooter.

“Please call us on 101 with any available information, quoting reference number 1607 15/11/25.”
