A major city route was blocked in both directions during rush hour this morning, November 18, following a crash.

The A4540 Lawley Middleway, between Digbeth and Bordesley Green, was shut to traffic due to the collision.

The road was closed between Garrison Circus and Curzon Circus.

Drivers were urged to find alternative routes where possible.

Police were called to the scene of the crash.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “We’re currently at the scene of a collision in Lawley Middleway.

“Officers are at the scene carrying out enquiries and drivers are advised to find alternate routes.”

The force said it was unable to issue any further updates at this stage.

West Midlands Roads warned drivers about delays in the area.

It wrote on social media platform X: “Police incident – Lawley Middleway northbound (anti-clockwise Ring Road).

“Road closed between Garrison Circus and Curzon Circus. Congestion in the area.

“Allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes where possible.”

A traffic update from Inrix read: “A4540 Lawley Middleway blocked in both directions.

“Long delays due to police incident from Great Barr Street (Garrison Circus) to B4132 Vauxhall Road (Curzon Circus).”
