Market closed after sudden death

A woman has died in South Gloucestershire.

Emergency services were called to Barnhill Road, at Hatherell’s Yard market in Chipping Sodbury, at around 7.40am on Tuesday, November 18, where a woman was confirmed to have died.

The shopping centre has been closed for the rest of the day, Hatherell’s Yard has confirmed.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Police and ambulance services have attended a non-suspicious sudden death of a woman in Chipping Sodbury today (Tuesday 18 November).

“We were called to the Barnhill Road area shortly after 7.40am this morning.

“Sadly, the individual’s death was confirmed at the scene.

“The woman’s next of kin has been informed and our sympathies go out to them.

“Officers left the scene at approximately 11.30am.”

In a statement shared to Facebook, the shopping centre said: “All shops in Hatherell’s Yard will be closed today out of respect for an incident that took place nearby this morning.

“All shops will be open as normal tomorrow.

“Thank you for your understanding.”

South Gloucestershire Neighbourhood Policing posted on their Facebook page: “Earlier today many of you will have seen there was a significant emergency services’ presence in Chipping Sodbury.

“We are sad to inform you all that we were called to an incident in which a woman has sadly died.

“The circumstances relating to her death are not being treated as suspicious.

“We wanted to share this news because we didn’t want there to be any misunderstanding about today’s tragic events.

“We’re sure you will join us in sending our sympathies and thoughts to the woman’s family.”
