Stockport has the second-highest total of speed cameras in Greater Manchester, new analysis shows.
The borough is home to 30 speed cameras, second only to Manchester with 57.
More than 250 traffic cameras have been installed in Greater Manchester, and there are hundreds more ‘mobile locations’ where the police can enforce the limits temporarily.

Stockport, home to the ‘start/finish line’ of the M60 — the town’s brick viaduct — also contains major arterial roads like the A6, so it’s easy to understand why so many cameras have been put up here.
However, few may understand the variety of offences speed cameras in the borough can capture. As well as regular speed cameras, there are motorway cameras, and red traffic light cameras, watching over motorists.
Now, we’ve used data from Greater Manchester’s 10 councils to compile a list of every speed camera in the city-region.
We’ve added to that list of cameras from early 2024 with more recent announcements, and from database Speeding Fine Calculator.
We then cross-referenced camera locations with Google Streetview images to confirm they were still there in 2025.
The table below gives a complete list of 262 speed, average speed, red light, and yellow box cameras, and the speed limit in force where appropriate.
It’s worth checking it before your next new journey, as being caught out by a camera will lead to a £100 fine and three penalty points on your driving licence as a minimum.
However, punishments can be harsher for more egregious offences.
If a driver accrues 12 penalty points on their licence within three years, they can be disqualified from driving.
The limit is lower for new drivers, who can be disqualified for attaining six points in their first two years behind the wheel.
