A veteran forward who had a torrid time in Super League has been rewarded with a new contract after his “tremendous” NRL return.

Sio Siua Taukeiaho left Super League just 18 months into a two-year deal, making zero appearances in his second season at Catalans Dragons as injury issues took hold.

What followed were disciplinary issues with Catalans releasing the veteran forward sacked alongside two others after they failed to attend the England versus France mid-season international, instead attending a concert in England.

As a result, Taukeiaho played just ten games in 18 months before returning down under but he’s gone on to be a huge asset to Manly Sea Eagles, who initially picked him up in late 2024 on a train and trial deal before committing to him for the 2025 season.

After an impressive first season back in the NRL, Taukeiaho has now been handed a contract extension with Manly’s head coach Anthony Seibold hailing his impact.

Sacked Super League forward signs new NRL deal

Taukeiaho had been on the radar of NRL clubs after his first season with Catalans but a failed medical saw a move to Canterbury fall through, however, he put his injury woes behind him and made 21 appearances in 2025.

Speaking on the forward’s impact, head coach Anthony Seibold said: “Siua was tremendous for the team in his first year back in the NRL.

“Effort after effort and just so consistent with his performances. We had a lot of injuries to our middles last season, so Siua’s contribution to the team became even more important.

“He’s one of our leaders who shows the way week in, week out.”

Taukeiaho could be asked to step up even more in terms of leadership with Daly Cherry-Evans departing and fellow prop Toafofoa Sipley joining Warrington Wolves.

“I’m really happy to have signed on at Manly for another year,” Taukeiaho said of his new deal.

“It’s a terrific a group we’ve got here, both players and staff, and I think the future looks bright. I’ve enjoyed the break, my body feels good, so pre-season here we come.”
