The construction of new council homes in Farsley has moved a step closer to becoming a reality.

Council chiefs have this week agreed to enter into a pre-construction services agreement to deliver new council homes at the former Richmond House site in Richmond Road.

A community consultation into initial designs for 33 apartments earlier this year has led to a redesign of the proposals following concerns from the community and Calverley & Farsley ward councillors.

WLD understands a full planning application for the site is due to be submitted shortly.

A council report released this week has given the go ahead to appoint Termrim Construction Ltd to complete pre-construction activities for a total of £341,180.

The council report adds: “This proposal will bring a currently unused brownfield site back into use, providing high-quality housing that supports the council’s inclusive growth and climate emergency agendas, together with wider benefit to the community in respect of improved access to higher-quality green space.”

The full council report can be read here.

Richmond House Care Home was closed in 2021 due to council cuts and the building was demolished in 2023.
