NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) – A Northeast Kingdom mental health resource is celebrating its expansion to round-the-clock operations with an open house on Wednesday.
Northeast Kingdom Human Services, which operates Front Porch Mental Health Urgent Care in Newport, is holding a grand reopening on Wednesday to celebrate the expansion to 24-hour operations.
The four-bed facility on Lakemont Road first opened in June 2024 with limited hours. It’s Vermont’s first 24/7 mental health urgent care and stabilization program, providing same-day access to crisis care and up to 10 days of support without the need for a referral or hospital admission.
While other designated agencies have launched daytime mental health urgent care or crisis stabilization beds, Front Porch is the first in the state to combine these two components under one roof.
Emily Hawes, Commissioner of the Department of Mental Health, and other government officials and community partners will attend Wednesday’s event at 1 p.m.
