Leeds United are set to step up their interest in Gonzalo Garcia in the January transfer window. The Whites are desperate to add goals to their team in the New Year in a bid to boost their hopes of preserving their Premier League status.
Daniel Farke’s side currently sit 16th in the table and just one point above the relegation zone. With just 10 goals scored in 11 games so far, Leeds have scored the second-fewest goals in the division this term. As a result, it’s clear that the need for goals is huge and would be a massive help as they look to avoid an immediate return to the EFL Championship.
Leeds To Step Up Gonzalo Garcia Pursuit

In the search for goals, Leeds’ pursuit of Gonzalo Garcia is set to intensify. According to TeamTalk, the Whites are set to test Real Madrid with a £17million bid for the striker’s services. Los Blancos are reportedly willing to allow him to leave the club on a permanent basis or on loan with an obligation to make the deal permanent for £17.6million.
Leeds’ bid is reportedly imminent, with a deal likely to be worth £20million with add-ons and a sell-on clause. It’s also claimed that Real Madrid would demand a buyback clause in the deal to give them control over the youngster’s future, giving them the option to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu in the future.#
Farke has suggested to the 49ers that the signing of Garcia — a player described as ‘perfect’—could be the difference between relegation and survival.
Aston Villa and Wolves are also interested in a permanent deal, while Brighton are interested in a straight loan deal for the striker. Sunderland are also keen.
A product of Real Madrid’s Castilla academy, Garcia has scored five goals in 21 appearances for the Spanish giants — four of which came on the club’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign.
This term has been a challenge for the 21-year-old, who has played just 108 minutes of first-team football. Facing competition from Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe, opportunities have been limited under Xabi Alonso. As a result, Real Madrid are open to allowing him to move to the Premier League in order to get the first team football needed to become the superstar that he’s capable of becoming.
