Tom Wagner has hailed Jude Bellingham as the best player in the world after the Birmingham City hero played a role in the club’s stadium unveiling at Digbeth Loc.
In a star-studded event which included Wagner, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and countless other dignitaries, Blues unveiled the design for their 62,000 seater stadium which Wagner hopes will be up and running in five years time.
The reveal also included a recorded video in which Real Madrid star – and Blues academy product – Bellingham is seen looking over the plans
Speaking afterwards Wagner was asked about trying to entice the 22-year-old back to his first club and the role a new stadium could play.
The chairman said: “I think Jude is the greatest player on the planet today and we haven’t seen anywhere near his full potential yet.
“Not just as a player on the pitch but also what he can do for the community.
“And so if we can provide him a platform to achieve his full potential then it’s a great story.
“It’s a great coming home story. It’s a great Birmingham story, it’s a great England story.”
Bellingham joined Blues as a child before coming through the academy and becoming the youngest player in the club’s history when he made his debut at just 16.
However, his potential outstripped Blues’ status at the time and he was sold to Borussia Dortmund after just one season. He has since gone on to play for England and win the Champions League with Real Madrid.
