Former housemate JoJo Siwa has spoken about the secret messages she shared with Chris Hughes on Celebrity Big Brother, revealing that “a lot more came out” that viewers didn’t see. She was caught breaking the rules of the show one night when she wrote something on her co-star’s hand.

Finalists JoJo, 21, and Chris, 32, bonded in the Big Brother house during the latest series of the ITV show, which aired its final last week. A week into the series, it was announced that they had broken a rule over communicating “in code”, which left some of the other housemates unimpressed.

Former Dance Moms star JoJo later stated on the show that the messages had related to gender identity. She said at the time: “Essentially, you have female, you have male. I’ve met a lot of females – love them [but] don’t feel like I’m them. Met a lot of males – love them [but] definitely not them.”

JoJo continued whilst in the Diary Room with Chris: “I’ve met a lot of people in my life that are non-binary and [they] are who I feel the most like. It’s not something that I want to say about myself yet but it’s something that is confusing.”

More recently, she’s discussed the situation since leaving the Big Brother. JoJo – who split from her partner Kath Ebbs at a wrap party for the show last week – spoke about writing on Chris’ hand whilst a guest on the latest episode of the Useless Hotline podcast, which was released today.

Asked what she wrote, JoJo said on the podcast: “I don’t remember exactly what I wrote on his hand. […] Those first three nights we would just like talk.”

The guest continued: “Like you didn’t know what you were saying. You had no one to talk to. It was also in the phase when it was like fun to yap in the house. […] Those first few days it was fun to chit-chat.”

She continued: “So I don’t remember exactly the word or words or whatever that I wrote. But the context obviously … and I gave a bit of context on the show.” JoJo suggested that it’s “more stressful” now discussing gender identity “in the open”, but added that it may help others in similar positions.

JoJo later said: “The topic of conversation had to do with gender identity, whatever, and y’know saying just what I said on the show. There’s female, there’s male, there’s non-binary. Met a lot of beautiful non-binary people. I do feel a lot like them but I don’t know if that’s me yet. Like, I’m very much still female. I feel very female but just an interesting topic that my mind has been open to.”

Teasing that there was “a lot more” to the messages on Chris’ hand, JoJo said on the podcast: “I will give you a little bit of insight – I wrote a lot on his hand that night. There was a lot more that came out over hand text that night.

“It was not the four letters. You know what I mean? And I think that’s … a lot of people have asked me like ‘but you wrote four letters. What do you mean?’ And I was like ‘no, no, no babe’. Like we were scribbling. I was scribbling.”

Whilst on the podcast, JoJo said about about identity: “It’s okay to not know. And I think the more people that realise ‘oh it’s okay to not know’. It’s okay to be curious. It’s okay to see different communities and say ‘am I a part, am I not?’.”
