The fault was reported just after 6:30am. No timescale has been given to when it will be fixed.
Scotrail said that services between the two cities are likely to be cancelled or delayed. The fault is also affecting trains to Dunblane.

The early morning fault follows disruption on Thursday, where damaged overhead power cables at Glasgow Central station affected rush hour commuters heading to work.
A similar problem also affected the Kilwinning to Glasgow line later in the day. Both have now been resolved.
