Coronation Street fans think they have worked out who really put Carla Connor in trouble with the police on the latest episode of the ITV show. Fans of the world’s longest-running TV soap have been following the ups and downs of Carla’s romance with DS Lisa Swain for a year now, and they have become a a social media sensation known as Swarla, but their engagement was marred when Lisa’s wife Becky came ‘back from the dead’ earlier this year.
When Lisa arrived on the scene, she revealed that her wife Becky, also a police officer, had been killed in the line of duty some years earlier but she got a shock a few months ago when it emerged that was all a corrupt police cover up centring on a crime gang, and Becky had been alive and well and living in Spain as part of a corrupt cover up. Since making herself known, Becky has spent the last few months turning up unannounced at number six and bonding with their daughter Betsy once again, all the while trying to win her family back.
Everything started off looking rosy at the house in the latest instalment of the show, and, as they both had the day off, Carla had set about organising a romantic day for herself and Lisa. But everything was ruined when the factory boss received a call from Underworld alerting her to the fact that the police had turned up following an allegation of fraud. Carla raced round to the factory to clear things up and instantly thought she knew who was behind it.

She told the police officer: “You know, don’t you? Go on, ring her. Ask her. This is ridiculous. I swear, I’m gonna throttle her!” and as the policewoman tried to open the door to the car, she snarled: “I can do it, I’m not two, thank you!” before being driven off. During her interview with Kit Green, Carla explained: “I’d arranged a lovely day out for us together, OK, to spend together, with spa, shopping and our favourite restaurant.
“And then in walks the not-so-dead ex, and she overhears all this, and all of a sudden, I’m in a police car, and I end up here. Let’s drop this charade and let me go.” Kit did not confirm nor deny whether Becky had made the complaint, and it was then that his boss, DI Costello, who orchestrated Becky’s fake death in the first place, knocked on the door and called him outside for a private word. Upon his return, he dismissed Carla and would not explain anything further.
Back at home, Carla could not hold back when Becky walked in and grabbed her by the collar as she pushed her over the sofa. Just then, Lisa walked in and told Carla to stop what she was doing, but she hit back: “What? If I’m gonna get nicked, it might as well be worth it!” However, in a shock twist, Lisa had just been visiting her boss, who claimed that it was Carla’s former client Eli who had accused her of committing fraud.
Fans will remember that a few months ago, Eli had been a potential buyer at Underworld, and it all ended badly when he wrongly accused Carla’s colleague, Sarah Platt, of sexual harassment whilst conducting a business meeting.
Surprised, Carla said: “It couldn’t have been. I mean, last time we spoke, we were absolutely fine. I’d given him 40% off, and…oh…I kind of had lunch with an old mate of his the other day, and, erm, well, I slagged him off a bit. Well, a lot. But not enough for him to make him go this mental. I mean…”
Fans are convinced that some sort of cover-up was put in place by DI Costello and DC Kit Green(Image: ITV)
Carla was not entirely convinced, though, and told nephew Ryan over at the cafe later on that she was sure Becky was still behind it all somehow. But fans took a different approach and decided that Kit, who was recently in line for a promotion at the police station, was somehow involved.
One fan wrote on X: “When Costello told Lisa it wasn’t Becky who made the complaint it was a client who accused some worker of sexual assault which is conveniently kits mrs. Could kit be in on that cover up. Bit strange that I thought,” whilst another said: “Why do I think that Costello told Kit not to set it straight with Carla that it wasn’t Becky who filed the complaint so that Carla would go after Becky and do the dirty work for him?”
Another said: “this storyline just goes from one level of absurdity to the next! costello and kit blatantly lied about eli having been behind the tip-off. it wouldn’t surprise me at all if becky has connections to him in some form and plotted with him to get koala done for fraud.”
