A four-time convicted drug dealer took over a woman’s house in order to carry out his trade before killing her dog. Dylan Uttley was put back behind bars this week after being caught with thousands of pounds of crack cocaine while speeding down County Road on an e-bike.

Liverpool Crown Court heard on Wednesday that the 28-year-old, of Rocky Lane in Anfield, was seen riding an electric bicycle “at high speed” on County Road in Walton on January 2 this year. He was thereafter observed to “keep checking over his shoulder” and “paying attention to” the police car behind him.

Sarah Egan, prosecuting, described how Uttley attempted to ride away from officers before they were ultimately able to take hold of him. Having replied “you’ll find them” following his arrest, a bag containing a total of 300 wraps of white powder was then found in his jacket pocket.

This 44.5g of crack cocaine was said to have a value of around £3,000. A small bag of heroin and “remnants” of cannabis were discovered upon a search of his home address, alongside a set of scales, a tick list and a “burner phone”.

Uttley has five previous convictions for 10 offences, including three for drug trafficking matters in 2017 and 2018. One of these saw him sentenced to three years behind bars at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in April 2018 after he took selfies with a woman’s dog before killing her beloved pet, having taken over her home to sell drugs.

The Press and Journal reported on this occasion that Uttley “cuckooed” her home in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, before she left to property and went to stay with a friend. However, when she returned the next day, she found her Lhasa Apso hanging from a door then making futile attempts to resuscitate the dog.

Following his arrest the following month, officers discovered a series of photographs of Uttley and the pet. The then 20-year-old later confessed to killing the dog, as well as being involved in the supply of heroin and cocaine.

His own counsel labelled his crimes as “abysmal” and “downright despicable”. Sheriff Jack Brown meanwhile told him that he had committed a “singularly evil, callous and barbaric act”.

Uttley was then handed another three years in July of the same year in relation to the supply of heroin and crack cocaine in North Wales. North Wales Live reported that this sentence came after police raided a flat and discovered him with nearly £2,000 in cash.

Callum Ross, defending Uttley during his latest appearance, told the court: “Clearly, this will be a significant custodial sentence. Although the mandatory minimum term does not technically apply, it is, essentially, the defendant’s fourth drug supply conviction.

“There is the very significant aggravation of these previous convictions, perhaps most significantly because of the volume, although there is perhaps some tempering of that, given that the last possession with intent to supply matter in 2018 was some six to seven years ago. The pre-sentence report perhaps speaks of a different side to this defendant than a simple glance at his antecedent record shows.

“He has not been in work recently. It is not an excuse but some explanation why the defendant involved himself in drug supply again, having been made unemployed after being told that his qualifications for working on the railways were invalid.

“He tells me that he wishes to cut down his cannabis use. Hopefully, he will be able to do so and will leave prison a person who no longer uses substances.

“The defendant has a partner. She supports him in court. He is in a stable relationship with her. His partner has a child. He is effectively the stepfather of that child. That child is some nine months old. He wants to be there to assist with his care in his early years. He accepts that he will not be there for some time.”

Uttley admitted possession of crack cocaine and possession of heroin. Appearing in the dock wearing a blue On Running tracksuit top, he was jailed for 44 months.

Sentencing, Judge David Potter said: “These offences arose from you being stopped and searched on the 2nd of January this year, when you were riding an e-bike at speed and tried to evade police. When they eventually caught up with you, you volunteered that they would find the drugs in and about your person.

“You were dealing drugs directly to street users at a significant level. As you know, there are aggravating factors in this case. This was a large quantity of drugs.

“More seriously still, this is now your fourth conviction in respect of the trafficking of class A drugs. You are now in peril of receiving mandatory minimum sentences, if you were ever foolish enough to return to the supply of class A drugs.”
