Officers are urgently appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious at around 5am today
Police are investigating reports of a serious assault on a busy street in Bristol this morning.
Officers were called to the scene on Ashley Road by the ambulance service at around 5.30am today (November 22).
They have since confirmed that one person is in hospital in a serious but stable condition and urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A section of Ashley Road, near The Criterion pub and a number of other businesses, has been closed in both directions, with officers taping off the scene and manning the area. Photos from the scene show a number of police cars and ambulance in attendance.

Traffic is currently being diverted down Grosvenor Road or up Ashley hill.
“We were called at around 5.30am by the ambulance service to a report of a man who had been assaulted.
“One person is currently in hospital in serious but stable condition.
“A scene is in place near the Criterion in Ashley Road, in Bristol, while enquiries are being carried out.
“Members of the public can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area today and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak to their Neighbourhood Policing Team.
“If you were in the area from 5am and witnessed anything suspicious, or have relevant footage which could aid our enquiries, call us.
