The event, which took place at St Michael’s Church Hall on Dalrymple Loan, was organised by the Inner Wheel Club of Musselburgh.

Club members were delighted at the support for the lunch, which raised funds for the Scottish-based charity through ticket sales, a raffle and donations.

Mary’s Meals feeds three million children with a nutritious meal every school day in 16 countries. The charity is supported by the Inner Wheel Club of Musselburgh and is Inner Wheel’s international charity of the year.

In some of the countries where Mary’s Meals works – Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe – the school meal served is a vitamin-enriched porridge which helps children to learn and grow.

Speaking about the soup and pudding lunch, Vivien Ireland, club spokesperson, said: “Club members once more rose to the challenge and arrived punctually along with eight pots of soup, delicious desserts, tea and coffee, flowers and raffle prizes.

“Thanks go to family and friends who helped on the day. Thanks also to Ravelston House Hotel and Jennifer Brownlee of Tropical skincare for their kind donation of raffle prizes.”

She added: “As always, we are most appreciative of the generosity of those who buy tickets and attend our events.”
