Featherstone Rovers have released a statement confirming the club’s current position, and where it stands heading into the 2026 season.

Currently, the Championship club have a winding-up petition from HMRC, as well as reported debts totalling over £1 million and a series of player wages that went unpaid.

Former player James Glover was very vocal on the situation, taking to social media to air his grievances over the state of the club, with head coach Paul Cooke giving support.

In an attempt to save the club’s future, current Chairman Mark Campbell and CEO Chris Hamilton set up a new company ‘Rovers 2026 LTD’ – as they look for away out for the West Yorkshire outfit.

As it stands, Featherstone, alongside Salford Red Devils, will both play in the second tier next year, however their respective looming HMRC hearings puts that at risk, and if either fail to pay back their debts, could be forced to fold as a club.

The Rovers have given an update on their situation, with the club saying that they hope “the position in regards to finances” is hopefully nearing an end.

The club have also revealed that the Challenge Cup draw, which is due to take place on Monday (24 November), will include Featherstone. The Rovers will enter the Cup in the second round alongside all the other Championship clubs.

The statement, released on social media, reads in full:

“Rovers can confirm that the work to update the clubs position in regards to finances continues and will hopefully be concluded soon.”

“In addition, we are keen to confirm that the intention behind all of this work is to ensure there is a club next season and whilst this is ongoing we can advise fans that the draws for rounds one and two of the Betfred challenge cup (Championship clubs enter in round two) for 2026 will be made next Monday 24 November and will include Featherstone.”

“Whilst our work in the background continues the RFL obviously need to plan for next season and this is the latest stage in that process.”

“We hope fans will watch the draw with interest and , as stated before, we will update on the clubs position as soon as we can.”
