Part of a major Liverpool road is closed this evening after a crash. Traffic monitoring site Inrix posted at 7.17pm that Smithdown Road was shut in both directions from Bagot Street to Egerton Road.

This was due to an accident. When contacted by the ECHO, a force incident manager for Merseyside Police said there had been a crash between a car and motorbike. The motorcyclist has received an injury to his leg but it’s not known how severe the injury is at this stage.

Police are currently at the scene in Wavertree as the investigation in to the crash continues.

Live traffic data from Google shows traffic has been stopped from Bagot Street to Egerton Road but is running as normal in other parts of the road.

Smithdown Road is a key road, connecting Liverpool city centre to Toxteth, Wavertree and Mossley Hill.
