Liverpool extended their woeful form on Saturday afternoon by slumping to a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest and Gary Neville has sent a word of advice to under-fire boss Arne Slot

Gary Neville has told Arne Slot to completely rip up his Liverpool plan and start again as the Reds’ crisis goes on. Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield was already their sixth league reverse of the campaign.
It leaves them a lowly 11th in the table and already 12 points behind current leaders Arsenal. That run of form has seen Slot’s position called into question.
While Neville does not believe a change in management is the answer to Liverpool’s issue, he has admitted that their current form is a real concern and believes a back-to-basics approach is the only way out of the mire.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Manchester United icon said: “It’s a worry. It’s a massive worry. I’m not going to pile in because the reality is when you’ve won a league and got a group of players who have proved themselves over a long period of time and a manager who has proven himself, you’re allowed a dip.
“It’s not always going to be perfect. Ordinarily, it wouldn’t get this bad. They have to resist it now. They have to stop it now. They would have maybe thought that would have happened after the City game, the international break, they come back in a home game. But it’s continuing so they have to do something, they have to intervene.”

Asked what Slot needs to do, Neville added: “When you’re losing or going through a run like that as a club like that. I think of it from an individual perspective, you’ve got to strip everything back to its foundations.
“You can only go back to the basics. That means you eat perfectly – I mean I think they think perfectly anyway – but I’m talking about putting an extra level of detail, of focus, concentration into everything you do.
“That means the manager might have to be more basic in his style. He might have to go back to the fact that there are a few players up front who can win the game for you but ‘how do we keep clean sheets, how do we be more solid at the back, how do we be more solid in midfield?’

“They’re still continuing to be a bit expansive and expressive and I think they’ll be trying to do these things but you have to strip everything back to its foundations and pretend you’re starting from scratch. When you get to this level of blip, it’s more of a blip, it’s getting to a real concerning point for Liverpool.”
Slot will attempt to get Liverpool back to winning ways in midweek as the Reds take on PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. They then travel to struggling West Ham next weekend.
