Riedewald, 29, joined the Blades on a free transfer in October and penned a short-term deal at Bramall Lane. He has since made six appearances under the guidance of Chris Wilder.

Journalist Hall was impressed with his display against Sheffield Wednesday and has delivered his verdict, as per a report by The Star: “It may go under the radar with (Tyrese) Campbell grabbing the headlines but the performance of the former Palace man in the middle of the park was superb, especially early on before United seized control. He was everywhere in midfield, so often breaking up play and stopping the Owls getting any sort of momentum, and played a key role in the goal as he won the ball back high up from (Yan) Valery and fed (Callum) O’Hare.”

Sheffield United remain in the relegation zone along with Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City after their first 16 fixtures. They are one point from safety behind Oxford United in 21st.

Sheffield United latest regarding Jairo Riedewald

Sheffield United have a decision to make regarding Riedewald’s immediate future in South Yorkshire. SUFC will see his contract expire in January and need to weigh up where to keep hold of him for longer.

The ex-Holland international first moved over to England in 2017 to join Crystal Palace. Prior to his switch to Selhurst Park, he rose up through the academy at Ajax and broke into their first-team as a youngster.

Riedewald went on to play 97 games for the Eagles in all competitions and scored three goals. He left South London in 2024 and subsequently moved over to Belgium to link up with Royal Antwerp.

He then went on to make 21 outings for the Pro League club before cutting ties with him last summer. Sheffield United subsequently swooped in for him last month and he is turning out to be a shrewd addition by Wilder.

What now for Sheffield United and Jairo Riedewald?

Sheffield United will be considering what to do next with Riedewald. Most signs point towards SUFC extending his stay.

The Blades will be relieved to have beaten Sheffield Wednesday. They could have scored more against the Owls in the end as well.

Wilder was re-appointed back in September after Ruben Selles’ disastrous tenure. It has been a tough term for them to date and they will be hoping to hit some form this winter and rise up the division.

Sheffield United are back in action on Wednesday night as they aim to make it two wins on the spin. They face a home clash against Portsmouth.

Their upcoming opponents beat Millwall 3-1 in their last outing and have risen up to 19th. The Blades then face an away trip to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon to see out November.
