Major retailer Lidl has confirmed a new store will be opening in Oldham this week, creating up to 40 new jobs for people in the area.
The town’s new Lidl store will be coming to Albert Street and will open on Thursday (November 27). It will closely match the opening hours of many of the retailer’s surrounding stores in the area, with the Albert Street store opening from 8am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday’s.
Spanning 1,334m², the store will also feature an in-store bakery and will also include a middle aisle displaying the retailer’s Middle-Of-Lidl offer items. The site will also include parking spaces for both cars and bikes, with seven electric vehicle chargers, alongside baby-changing stations and toilets.
Nick Harvey, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented: “For over thirty years, we have been creating Lidl fans across Manchester and are delighted to open our doors to our new store in Oldham. Today’s announcement is a testament to the growing demand for our affordable and high-quality products, and we’re delighted to open our doors in time for Christmas.”
He added: “Thank you to everyone who has played a part in helping to make this store a reality. It’s always an exciting moment when we’re finally able to see our plans come to life and make a difference to local communities.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with pupils from Hollinwood Academy will mark the opening, and Lidl has also revealed it will be launching a range of exclusive offers and prizes for shoppers visiting the store on the opening to take advantage of.
The new store comes as part of a multi-million pound investment, with the retailer revealing it should create up to 40 new jobs.
On the opening, Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council said: “It’s great to welcome another Lidl store to Oldham. This investment brings new jobs, more choice for residents and another boost for our town.
“We are working hard to attract more businesses and create a stronger, more vibrant Oldham, so it is fantastic to see Lidl choosing to grow here. I want to thank everyone involved in getting the store ready for opening and I hope residents enjoy having even more access to affordable, good-quality shopping right on their doorstep.”
Lidl GB has more than 980 stores across Britain, including a number of sites already in Oldham. The closest other stores to the retailer’s new Albert Street site would be Lidl’s Jardine Way store in Oldham, as well as locations in Newton Heath, Harpurhey and Ashton-Under-Lyne.
