A roadside tent and a quack baba turned the life of a Bengaluru software engineer upside down. Tejas, 29, went to seek treatment for a sexual health issue but fell prey to a fake Ayurvedic guru, resulting in kidney failure and a financial loss of Rs 48 lakh.
Tejas was undergoing treatment for a sexual health problem at a multi-specialty hospital in Kengeri, Bengaluru, with doctors assuring gradual improvement. On his way back, he noticed an unfamiliar roadside tent advertising, “Ayurvedic Treatment: A Panacea for Sexual Problems.” Hoping for privacy and quick relief, he went inside, an impulsive decision that would change his life.
Guruji’s Promises
Inside, a man introduced himself as Vinay Guruji. Signs claimed his “secret Ayurvedic methods cure all sexual problems.” Tejas explained his issue, and the guru promised rare herbs unavailable elsewhere, offering personal, confidential attention. Impressed, Tejas returned for treatment.
The Devraj Herb: First Shock Of Rs 1.6 Lakh
Guruji prescribed Devraj Herb, supposedly rare and costing Rs 1.5 lakh per gram. Tejas, desperate for a cure, paid Rs 1.6 lakh in cash. Strange conditions, no online payments, coming alone, and avoiding family, isolated him and made it difficult to seek advice.
Rs 17 Lakh Drained Over Time
The pattern became clear as the guru insisted on multiple rounds of treatment. Tejas spent Rs 17 lakh in small installments. New remedies like Bhavan Booti Oil were added, increasing costs. He even took a bank loan of Rs 20 lakh. Despite months of treatment, his condition did not improve. When he questioned Guruji, he was threatened that stopping treatment would worsen his problem. The psychological pressure kept Tejas trapped.
Over time, Tejas’s health deteriorated. A blood test revealed kidney damage caused by the medications. His financial loss was now compounded by serious health issues.
Police Complaint And Investigation
Tejas filed a complaint at Gyanbharathi police station. A case has been registered against Vinay Guruji and Vijayalakshmi Ayurvedic, the entity associated with the tent. Police are investigating the money trail, the legitimacy of the medicines, and potential other victims
