BBC Wales’ Lost Boys & Fairies won an award for TV movie/mini series at the International Emmy Awards

It’s no shock that Lost Boys & Fairies has seen praise at the International Emmy Awards which took place on Monday, November 24. The series, filmed and set in Cardiff, was the biggest winner in this year’s BAFTA Cymru which took place in Newport’s ICC arena in October.
The BBC took three awards home from the International Emmys, which includes Hell Jumper for Documentary, Ludwig for Comedy and Lost Boys and Fairies for TV movie/mini series. The show follows the fictional story of singer and artist Gabriel, his partner Andy and their journey to adoption.

The ‘coming of middle-age’ story which is deeply heart-wrenching yet filled with humour, redemption, and love is loosely based on writer Daf James’ own experiences of gay adoption.
When it was released he said: “It feels like such a privilege to have this platform on BBC One to tell this story about gay adoption.
“I’m just really excited to share this story with the world and for people to see the remarkable performances that are in it that have brought the show to life and the design and what the director [James Kent] has done with it and all of those things.”

The series was developed as part of BBC Writers TV Drama Writers’ Programme 2019 and made with support from Creative Wales, and was aired in June 2024.
Earlier this year, Daf James won Best Writer at the BAFTA Cymru awards for his work on the series.
Additionally, the cast and crew won awards for editing, best director (fiction), best television drama, and Sion Daniel Young won best actor.
