Three more Birmingham schools could permanently join a council scheme which closes roads outside schools to car traffic at the start and end of the day.
Birmingham City Council says the car free school streets scheme aims to improve air pollution, reduce congestion and make it safer to walk or cycle to school.
Earlier this month, Cotteridge Primary in Stirchley, The Oval School in Garretts Green and Whitehouse Common Primary in Sutton Trinity became the latest schools to join the initiative as part of its fifth phase – bringing the total number of schools involved to more than 20.

It means motor traffic is prevented from driving on particular roads near the schools at certain times in the morning and afternoon.
The council has said it will consider in due course whether the changes should be made permanent.
In the meantime, residents can leave feedback about the impact of the scheme at the above three schools as part of a public consultation launched this week by the council.
The restrictions apply on the below roads and at the following times on weekdays (Monday to Friday, term time only):

The council has also said there are exemptions to the restrictions which “allow residents to go about essential business”.
Vehicles which may be driven during the closure include:

Vehicles displaying a valid permit.

Vehicles transporting Blue Badge holders.

Emergency services.

Healthcare workers undertaking duties.

Utility companies.
-
Postal service providers and delivery of goods by a Universal Service Provider.

Licensed hire vehicles picking up or dropping off passengers to a property within the restricted area.
