‘Manchester has been crying out for this for too long’

A major US breakfast chain will open its first northern store with a new venue in Manchester – but its X-rated name has already divided opinion around the world.
Eggslut started life in 2011 and opened its first store in Los Angeles two years later. Apparently named after a popular early 2000’s phrase referring to foodies who serve every dish topped with an egg, the chain now also has sites across the US, as well as in Tokyo, Hong Kong and London.
In fact, the ‘chef driven, gourmet food concept’ has well and truly expanded across the capital in the last six years, with seven venues there alone. The all-day breakfast brand, founded by Alvin Cailan, has allegedly received countless demands for a site in Manchester.
Opening at Bruntwood SciTech’s Centurion House in Deansgate, overlooking the Manchester Town Hall and near Spinningfields, the café will open at the start of the year. Its menu, which as the name suggests features eggs at the core of each option, includes the likes of the classic Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich and Truffle Hash Browns.

Eggslut’s menu also features the Pork Romesco, featuring crispy pork belly, romesco sauce and an over-easy egg, and the Fairfax, which consists of a soft brioche bun loaded with soft scrambled eggs, caramelised onions, chives, cheddar and sriracha mayo. There’s also ‘The Slut’, featuring an egg on top of a house-made potato purée, cooked in a glass jar and topped with grey salt and chives.
One of Eggslut’s newest additions in the form of French Toast Sticks, made up of thick-cut brioche dipped in egg wash and fried then tossed in cinnamon sugar and served with maple custard, will also make its way to the Manchester store. The menu will also include coffee made by Kiss The Hippo, as well as fresh orange juice, cold brews and matchas, whilst they will also offer a range of catering options too.

“Manchester has been crying out for an Eggslut for too long, and we were only too happy to make that dream a reality,” Pedro Ribeiro, Eggslut’s Head of Ops, said. “The city is the perfect place to bring our kind of breakfast to a brand new area of the UK and we cannot wait to join such a fast-paced and buzzing food scene.”
Since its debut, the name of the concept has understandably been met with some controversy. Earlier this month, it was announced that the cult chain will be required to change its name to Burgers by ES for its upcoming Australian debut after regulators decided its original name was ‘undesirable’. Others online have described it as ‘misogynistic’ and ‘shameful’.

But some have said they appreciate the tongue-in-cheek humour of the name, with one person on Reddit even hailing it as ‘eggslutellent’. Founder Alvin Cailan said he chose the name to make the egg as the star of its menu and to stand out, which is certainly something which has been achieved.
Speaking about the upcoming Manchester site, Matt Pazos, Bruntwood SciTech Retail Commercial Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the first Eggslut outside of London to Manchester and can’t wait for the team to crack open their doors on Deansgate. The brand has built a cult following thanks to their delicious chef driven comfort food and we know that it will fast become a go-to spot for businesses based in Centurion House as well as locals and visitors to the city.”
Eggslut will open in Deansgate in January 2026. It’ll be open seven days a week, from 7am to 4pm on weekdays and 8am to 5pm on the weekend.
