Following the release of the latest almond season data by MAPA and the outlook for 2025/2026, SAB-Almendrave is pleased with the increase in Spanish almond production. “Spain produced a record 366,495 tons of almonds in the 2024/25 season, up 23.6% from the previous year and 8.4% above the five-year average. While most regions saw gains, drought conditions in parts of the south and east limited yields,” stated Pere Ferré, president of SAB-Almendrave.
“Despite good national almond production, demand in the Spanish industry is growing faster than supply. Spanish almonds currently meet about half of the processing sector’s needs, so imports remain necessary,” Ferré stated. The combination of strong domestic production and a well-managed flow of imports is key to sustaining the sector’s competitiveness and export capacity, he added.

“In 2024/25, almond trade achieved a record positive balance of 305.02 million euros, up 58.2% from the previous season and 109.8% from the five-year average. Almond exports reached a peak of 750 million euros and 127,000 tons, representing increases of 48.2% in value and 11.4% in volume over the prior year. The primary markets for exports were EU countries, with 108,786 tons (+9.5% year-over-year), followed by non-EU nations, with 18,105 tons (+23.5% year-over-year).” Imports totaled 445 million euros, with a volume of 102,179 tons, mainly from the United States and Australia.
According to Ferré, “these trade balances and export records, both in value and volume, show that Spanish almonds are gaining increasing popularity worldwide due to their quality, traceability, and differentiation. He also emphasized that strong sales within and outside the EU reflect the sector’s ability to explore new markets and solidify its strategic position.”
Initiatives such as Sustainable EU Almond are helping position Spanish production in a highly competitive global market.
“In 2024/2025, domestic consumption of almonds in Spain increased by 5.5% year-over-year and by 25.4% compared to the five-year average, confirming its status as one of the most popular nuts,” Ferré stated.
