Leeds have made a few blunders in the transfer market in recent years.
It is now obvious that Daniel Farke was wrong to oust Charlie Cresswell as Juventus and West Ham target the England U21 international – who Leeds sold to Toulouse in July 2024 for just £4m.
Loaning Joe Gelhardt back to Hull City also seems to have been a mistake, as the 23-year-old can currently boast six goals in his last seven Championship appearances.
Who do you want Leeds to sign in January?
Now – according to L’Unione Sarda – another player sold for peanuts by Leeds in Elia Caprile is attracting interest from the Premier League like Cresswell.
Elia Caprile tipped to make Premier League move after 2022 Leeds United exit
Leeds sold the Italian to Bari for just £1.4m back in July 2022 – having never made a single senior appearance for the Whites following a move from Chievo in January 2020.
However, Caprile – who Inter Milan admire – could soon be facing Leeds next season, if Premier League survival is secured this term.
L’Unione Sarda claim that the 24-year-old is currently ‘destined’ to make a move to the Premier League at the end of the season as he shines for Cagliari, where he can boast two clean sheets in 12 Serie A appearances so far this term.

Who should start in goal for Leeds United?
The Italian news outlet even state that Caprile is on a “similar path” to that of Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Manchester City No.25 who is widely considered to be the best goalkeeper on the planet.
As Lucas Perri struggles to convince Leeds fans following his £16m move from Lyon, it is a bittersweet sight to see Caprile steadily developing into a tremendous glovesman.
Leeds United have already benefitted from the Elia Caprile sell-on clause
There will be no financial benefit for Leeds if Caprile makes a lucrative return to England in 2026, as the Whites have already seen their 50% sell-on clause activated.
Robbie Evans on Leeds United’s PSR position:
“This summer, we spent everything we could. Unequivocally, we are maxing PSR out this season. If we had gone on to other targets [on deadline day], the consequences would have been seen in the current roster. More key players from last season would have had to go.”
The man born in Verona moved from Bari to Napoli in July 2023 in a £3m deal, which landed Leeds a sum of £1.5m thanks to the sell-on clause.
However, the clause was only active for that particular transfer, meaning Leeds stand to gain no financial benefits should Caprile come back to the Premier League in 2026.
