Brendan Rodgers is emerging as the frontrunner to replace Daniel Farke at Leeds.

TalkSPORT state that Rodgers is keen to return to England after leaving Celtic in October, and is under consideration by The 49ers as Farke currently sits 18th in the Premier League.

Should Leeds sack Daniel Farke?

Ange Postecoglou was also mentioned as an option, but it remains to be seen if the Australian will jump straight back into management after being sacked by both Tottenham and Nottingham Forest in the last five months.

If Brendan Rodgers is offered a contract, his glowing comments on Leeds from back in November 2020 strongly suggest he would accept the role.

Brendan Rodgers has previously called Leeds United a “great club”

As the Northern Irishman prepared to face Leeds with his Leicester side back in November 2020, he was particularly complimentary towards the Whites.

The Yorkshire Evening Post quoted Rodgers as saying: “I know, having taken Swansea up, the challenges that you have from being a newly promoted team… I was delighted when he (Marcelo Bielsa) came to Leeds. Leeds are a great club with a great tradition here in the British game and they have been out of the Premier League for such a long time.”

Rodgers – who Jurgen Klopp admires – can boast 312 Premier League games as a manager across spells at Swansea, Liverpool and Leicester, winning 139 of those matches at an average of 1.59 points every 90 minutes.

How much Brendan Rodgers earned at Celtic as finances claim made

TalkSPORT mention that Rodgers would be an “expensive” option for Leeds despite his current status as a free agent, suggesting he earned a large salary at Celtic.

The report did not mention any particular figure, but Wage Indicator state that he was making £2.5m-a-year in Glasgow.

Daniel Farke hits back after outside noise at Leeds United

“I’m not focused on myself. I mentioned outside noise. I quite like that, then the outside noise is a bit more on the manager and not on the players.

“So for me, I’m just fully focused on my team, how to help my team, how to back my team, how to lead my team.

“They need a leader who will stay calm and is not thinking about himself or what it means for his own career.”

Farke is rumoured to be on an annual salary of £2m – according to TEAMtalk – so if these figures are accurate, Leeds would most likely have to shell out a bit more in wages to land Rodgers.

However, that will end up being a drop in the ocean if the 52-year-old can guide Leeds to survival, with 17th place in the Premier League last season earning £127.8m in total.
