Last month, a popular lifestyle retailer announced plans to expand its footprint in the UK with three new stores across the North of England and Scotland. Earlier this month, Anthroplogie opened shops in Liverpool and Glasgow, and now it’s the turn of Manchester.

Inside the city’s storied Royal Exchange shopping centre, fashion and homeware lovers will now find the retailer and all its wares. Selling a range of clothing, shoes, accessories, home decor, furniture and gifts, the new shop arrives just in time for the Christmas rush.

Taking over a two-storey unit overlooking St Ann’s Square – and the Christmas Markets- it opened its doors this week and is preparing for this weekend’s Black Friday sales. Spanning 5,261 square feet, the Manchester store has been designed to embody the heritage of the historic city centre building, while introducing Anthropologie’s signature look.

“When considering new locations, we look at online demand alongside the corresponding population. Manchester ranked highly as it has a strong local community and a culturally rich city centre, which helped us pinpoint the city as an ideal location for a new Anthropologie store,” commented Matt Hilgeman, Managing Director, Anthropologie International.

“The Royal Exchange is a Grade-II listed landmark in the centre of Manchester, combining rich history, culture, and premium retail. This felt like the perfect place for us to open an Anthropologie.”

Founded in 1992 in Wayne, Pennsylvania, Anthropologie now ships to over 100 countries and operates more than 200 stores around the world. The brand is part of URBN, a portfolio of global consumer brands, and the new Manchester opening brings the number of stores in the UK up to 20.

Within the store, shoppers will first find a range of clothing brands spanning the likes of Madder, Tala, Maeve, Damson and Never Fully Dressed, amongst others. There is also a line of denim items alongside a selection of additional womenswear brands.

Clothing ranges from knitwear and jeans, to party outfits for the festive season, as well as activewear and accessories such as handbags, scarfs and hats, plus a jewellery line.

In terms of homeware and gifts, the new shop has been decked out with Christmas-inspired products plus kitchenware and glassware, as well as mugs and teacups, lighting, rugs and soft furnishings and wall art.

On top of the candles and home fragrances, there’s also a line of beauty products for shoppers to peruse. As part of the collection, there’s skincare, festive gifts and hair products to shop.

We aim to make Anthropologie a destination for inspiration, creativity, and engagement across the UK. Customers will find our own-label brands – Maeve, Pilcro, Daily Practice and Lyrebird – alongside a curated selection of third-party brands that really resonate with local customers, including Tala, Damson Madder and 4th & Reckless, among others,” added Matt.

“As a brand, we also love to deliver community-focused experiences working with local partners. We are planning engaging and memorable moments that allow us to meet our customer both in and beyond the store, creating space for discovery and inspiration.!

To celebrate the opening, there will also be a Winter Warmer Day on Tuesday, 9 December, featuring festive hot drinks and a gift personalisation station. For shoppers there’s an extra incentive too.

The first 100 shoppers to spend £100 between 9-11 December will receive a free Anthroplogie festive goodie bag. Anthropologie is located at 1-5 St Ann’s Square, Manchester M2 7EF. The store is open Monday to Friday, 9:30am until 6pm. Saturday’s it will be open 9am until 6pm, and on Sundays from 11am until 5pm.
