Manchester United were very keen on Ederson in the summer, although no deal ultimately transpired for the Serie A midfielder.

Now, it could be a hot topic again in 2026 if reports in his native Brazil are to be believed.

According to the Brazilian outlet Trivela, Ederson is nearing the end of his time at Atalanta, with his exit considered a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’.

It is explained that United is a probable destination for Ederson, as they maintain frequent contact with his representatives.

Additionally, there is an expectation that conversations between the club and player will open soon, suggesting that United could be in for Ederson in January.

After his latest performances, do you want Casemiro to sign a one-year contract extension?

The report notes that Ederson is considered a replacement for Casemiro, with the legendary Brazilian set to leave the club in the summer.

United will face competition from Juventus to sign Ederson, although whether there is enough interest to warrant a move remains to be seen.

Atalanta could ask for £43.7m for Ederson, which is due to his contract having 18 months left, and is a big drop from quotations in prior windows.

How has Ederson been performing in 2025/26?

Being 26 years old and having zero Premier League experience, Ederson doesn’t exactly fit Ineos’ recruitment model, although there is no denying his quality.

This season, Ederson has only played eight games in Serie A, with his form only really beginning to pick up over the course of November after a slow start.

The Brazilian has been particularly excellent in the Champions League, where he has been at his all-action best, winning seven duels and scoring this week against Frankfurt.

However, there should be hesitation to sign Ederson given his lack of English football experience, which probably sets Gomes as a better January addition to make an immediate impact.

One to keep an eye on.
