An object found following a security alert in Co Antrim was “nothing untoward”, police have said.

The Antrim Road had been closed between the Chimney Corner Hotel and the Crown & Shamrock Bar following the alert on Friday morning.

Public transport in the area was also subject to disruption as police, including Ammunition Technical Officers (ATOs) attended the scene.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “An earlier security alert in the Antrim Road area of Newtownabbey has now ended. Police received a report at approximately 10.20am today, Friday November 28, of a suspicious object in the area.

“Officers attended the scene along with Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) who examined the object which has been deemed as nothing untoward.

“Temporary cordons in the area have now been lifted – and those who were evacuated during the public safety operation have now returned.”
