Leading Knighthead figure and Birmingham City chairman Tom Wagner has held discussions with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, to discuss the plans for the Sports Quarter which will be the new home of Birmingham City in the years to come.

Knighthead unveiled exciting plans to build the Sports Quarter campus last year, upon purchasing the 48-acre Birmingham Wheels Park site in Bordesley Green. It’ll be more than just a new stadium for Blues, with sports facilities, shops and catering all set to be on offer to visitors.

The project, which is expected to set Knighthead back towards £3bn, is set to create over 8,000 jobs and substantially boost the local economy and the owners of Blues have been in regular talks with the Government about their plans for the east of the city.

Last month, Wagner visited Downing Street with Mayor Rich Parker to talk to the Prime Minister’s team about how the Sports Quarter can be delivered and bring about growth for the local community but also for the Midlands as a whole. Now, he has been pictured with chief finance minister Reeves.

“We’re backing the builders, not the blockers,” the HM Treasury post read. “That’s why the government has committed to building 1.5 million homes by the end of this parliament. We’re also backing a new runway at Heathrow and supporting new clean energy and public transport programmes, while cutting regulation to get Britain building.

“The Chancellor met Tom Wagner from Knighthead Capital Management, LLC – a leading investment firm – to discuss Knighthead’s investment in the Sports Quarter in East Birmingham and the government’s commitment to growth, a vital part of our Plan for Change.”
