A restaurant in Lozells has gone viral for its famous bright green Bengali fish and chips.

Bhaizans Grill on Lozells Road attracted millions of views on its TikTok and Instagram accounts after showing off the process of making their latest dish.

The plate includes a vivid green spicy fried fish with spicy masala fries served with a generous dunking dish of curry sauce.

The restaurant has an impressive 4.4 star rating out of five on Google and a top food hygiene rating of ‘5 – very good’.

Diners rave about their dishes on Google Reviews, including the masala fish burger, mixed doner kebab and fresh naan breads.

In a video that has had 4.7 million plays on TikTok and amassed nearly 300,000 likes on Instagram, the chef shows how he prepares the Bengali spin on a British classic.

It’s perhaps the good humour of the kitchen staff that has driven so much engagement online.

Talking to camera, the chef says: “Today I’m going to show you Bengali fish and chips.

“Putting oil in fish in fire, now ready Bengali fish and chips.

“Look, Bengali fish and chips comes with masala fries, already I made it, look.

“How does it look? Beautiful masala fries for Bengali fish and chips.

“Now I put Bengali spicy curry sauce. Now I put my favourite Bengali fish and chips.

“Finally, I put in Bengali fish and chips and masala fries.

“Look, how it’s beautiful. Very nice, very tasty, very delicious.

“Try to our Bengali fish and chips with masala fries with curry sauce, 46 Lozells Road B19.

“Banging, banging, banging, banging, new fishy Bengali fire!”

TikTok user Zimmeeyeee commented: “In case you didn’t get it, it’s Bengali fish and chips!”

While many asked why the fish was green, Bhaizans Grill were keeping their secret recipe under wraps.

Ron2W2 said: “I don’t get why almost everyone is complaining that the fish is green, matter of fact it’s quite interesting.

“I’m guessing it has coriander and chilli flavour infused?”

The restaurant replied: “You’re on the right track but there are a few other herbs and spices we add also.”

While users from around the world questioned the colour, locals shared their appreciation for the Bengali fish and chips.

“I literally ordered it today and it’s yummy,” Birmingham Makeup Artist wrote.

“Defo need to eat it with the curry sauce!”
