Passengers travelling from Glasgow Central Station may face disruption after trespassers were spotted on the railway. People commuting through Scotland’s busiest train station may have their plans scuppered this evening.

That is because trespassers were seen on the tracks at Milliken Park on Friday, November 28, causing several lines from Glasgow Central to be affected. Disruption could continue into the evening, ScotRail has confirmed.

While services are to run as scheduled, ScotRail has announced on X, previously Twitter, that “disruption to services will still be ongoing until our staff and trains are back in position”.

Most of the upheaval affects services to Ayrshire and Inverclyde.

Services affected include:

  • Glasgow Central to Ayr
  • Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour
  • Glasgow Central to Largs
  • Glasgow Central to Gourock
  • Glasgow Central to Wemyss Bay

The rail service has arranged for train tickets to be accepted on local bus routes with Stagecoach on all bus routes in Ayr/Largs/Ardrossan and stops in between towards Glasgow in both directions in light of the changes.

Rail tickets will also be accepted with McGills buses between Milliken Park/Johnstone/Paisley and Glasgow. And service number 38 will run in both directions.

It comes after commuters were hit with delays yesterday morning after a major train line into Glasgow was blocked due to an incident, the nature of which was not revealed by officials.

ScotRail said emergency services were dealing with an incident between Clarkston and Thorntonhall. The line was closed off and services between Glasgow Central and East Kilbride were cancelled, delayed or revised as a result.

It is understood the incident is no longer ongoing, and the operation of the route has returned to normal.
