Heavy rain in Greater Manchester today is set to make way for brighter conditions, according to Met Office forecasters.

Today (Saturday) is set to be mostly rainy on our region, with showers forecasters on-and-off into the evening. Forecasters predict the downpours will be heavy at times, with some lighter showers also forecaster through the day.

The rain is expected to ease off at around 9pm this evening. The temperature will reach a high of around 6C this afternoon, though it will feel chilly as it will feel more like 3C.

But according to the Met Office, conditions are set to approve into Sunday as the rain clears overnight. Sunny spells are expected through most of the day on Sunday and to end the weekend.

Some cloudy weather is expected in our region through the afternoon, but conditions look set to remain largely dry and clear. It will feel chilly again tomorrow, forecasters say, with highs of around 6C expected.

On the overall forecast for the North West for today, Met Office forecasters said: “A widely cloudy day with spells of rain moving in from the south. Becoming persistent into the afternoon with heavier outbreaks, especially over higher ground. Rather breezy, especially along the coast later. Feeling chilly in rural spots. Maximum temperature 7C.”

On the weather in the North West for tomorrow, forecasters added: “Much drier and more settled for all, though feeling chillier. Plenty of sunshine with mostly light winds. Becoming breezier by the evening with cloud arriving from the west. Maximum temperature 7C.”

The North West has escaped a yellow weather warning for rain today issued by the Met Office. The warning came into force at 6am today for the whole day and covers parts of the East Midlands, the East of England, London, the South East, the South West, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber.

Forecasters have warned that in these areas ‘there is potential for 20-30 mm to fall fairly widely with 50 mm possible in places’. The alert carry risks of flooding, power cuts and disruption to travel and outdoor plans.
