A busy London underground station has ground to a halt due to an emergency incident. Emergency services swarmed to Hammersmith Underground Station in London this morning after reports of a casualty on the track.

According to witnesses, access to the station was closed and services on the District Line are experiencing delays. Photographs of the scene show emergency services gathering outside the station, including ambulances, fire engines, police and two Incident Response Units.

A witness at the scene, Nick Soar, said emergency services at the scene were hurrying to help those involved. He said: “My thoughts are very much with any injured people and the emergency services who will face I’m sure horrible scenes. All very brave.

“They were rushing with care to help anyone inside and TFL staff very helpfully and compassionately guided people to the other stations.”

The head teacher also reported that entrances to the District and Piccadilly Lines were closed this morning with the shutters down, reports The Mirror.

He recalled seeing signs that told travellers to “make alternative arrangements”.

Transport for London has now confirmed that there has sadly been a casualty on the track.
