A cordoned off pub car park is linked to another police scene where a man was blasted twice in the leg by Sur-Ron bike-riding thugs. Merseyside Police was initially called to Radway Road in Huyton following reports that a man had been shot on the driveway of a house at around 10.20pm last night, Friday.
The force said the offenders left in an unknown direction on the Sur-Ron electric bike. The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police erected a cordon on Radway Road which remains in place this afternoon. The force also erected a cordon around the front carpark of the Oak Tree pub on Liverpool Road.
A Merseyside Police force incident manager told the ECHO that the two cordons were connected.
As part of their investigations the police confirmed a firearm and an electric bike had been recovered “in the area” and are currently in the process of carrying out house-to-house, CCTV and witness enquiries.
The force has not confirmed at this stage if the gun and bike were found in the pub car park. But sources in the local area told the ECHO that a gun had been found in the pub car park. One said they believed it was a shotgun.
He said: “It doesn’t surprise you anymore, does it? These kids are running around with guns and knives all the time. The area knows what happens with these idiots. What about little Olivia up the road?”
Police officers including a forensic specialist could be seen entering the pub at around 9.30am. Three police vehicles were parked around the cordon, with a number of vehicles remaining inside the carpark following last night’s police response.
Radway Road was not cordoned off by police until this morning. When the ECHO visited the street shortly after 7am there was no police activity.
But images since sent to the ECHO shortly after showed an extensive cordon had been erected around a section of the road. Police officers, including forensic officers, were outside the front of the house. Medical equipment and a blue tarpaulin around the front gate could also be seen.
An investigation has been launched by police and detectives are hunting the two gunmen. The force has not yet made any arrests in connection with the shooting.
Merseyside Police Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “We are still in the very early stages of an investigation and are determined to find the offenders responsible.
“A young man is currently in hospital with several injuries to his leg following a violent incident in our community therefore I want to reassure residents living in the area, that we are taking this incident extremely seriously and are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime.
“This is a residential area and there will be people who may have witnessed the incident, and I urge those people to tell us what you know if they have not done so already.
“If you have CCTV or dashcam footage, please let us know if your systems have captured anything. Information from you is vital if we are to breakdown organised crime groups and I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward as soon as possible.”
