It’s going to be an emotional one for everyone associated with Celtic on Sunday.

Martin O’Neill is expected to take charge of his final game as the Celtic manager against Hibernian at Easter Road, after taking over on an interim basis last month.

It surprised many when O’Neill was brought back by Dermot Desmond, not even the man himself would have envisaged such a situation.

Ahead of Celtic’s game against Hibernian, Liam Scales spoke about the legendary Irishman to the media.

Even before O’Neill returned to the dugout, and even if his second spell didn’t go to plan, he is still a bona fide icon at this football club.

But for some odd reason, a reporter at Scales’ press conference stated that O’Neill’s second spell has meant that he has now ‘cemented his place in the history of this football club.’

It was a rather daft suggestion, and thankfully, Scales put the reporter right by telling him, ‘I don’t think he needed to come back to do that.’

Reporter: “If Martin O’Neill could be even more of a legend at Celtic before he arrived here, he’s cemented his place in the history of this football club with what he has achieved in the last few weeks, hasn’t he?!”

Scales: “Yeah, definitely. I don’t think he needed to come back to do that. He is already (a legend). You have seen the reaction of the fans when he came back, and rightly so.

“Look, for however long he is here for, if we can just keep winning games, then that will be great for us and great for him as well.”

O’Neill’s legendary record as Celtic manager

Nobody in the history of Scottish football has dominated as Celtic have in the last 25 years, and O’Neill was the one who started the ball rolling.

Winning the Treble at Celtic and getting the better of a very strong Rangers side is something that should, one day, result in him having a statue built outside of Parkhead.
