Presenter Ant McPartlin ‘battled illness’ to present Sunday’s edition of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here alongside best mate Dec Donnelly, with him sounding really under the weather as soon as cameras started rolling. And, on hearing his croaky voice, many viewers were left full of concern for the popular star.

As they have done since the programme launched on ITV back in the summer of 2002, Ant and Dec have headed back Down Under for the new series, which has seen a fresh line-up of famous faces head into the Australian jungle and get used to living in camp and take on some gruelling and gruesome Bushtucker trials. With just a week to go until this year’s final, the eliminations have now begun, with former England footballer turned One Show anchor Alex Scott the first to get the boot on Friday night.

Ant and Dec were back on duty in jungle on Sunday night and, within just moments of the episode beginning, viewers were flocking to X to talk about how croaky Ant surrounded and wishing him well. Dec himself picked up on Ant’s hoarse voice after an ad break, when he encouraged him to ‘cough it up’ as Ant complained about getting ‘no sympathy’ from his friend and co-host.

As the camera cut to Lisa Riley’s trial, recorded the previous day, Ant also sounded rather croaky and hearing him struggle, one fan took to X to react: ‘Ant what happened to your voice’ as another posted: ‘Can someone bring a lozenge to the studio floor please!’ Others seemed to approve of Ant’s husky tones, as another commented: ‘Poor Ant’s going to have no voice by the end of this.’

Ant addressed his illness during an appearance on Saturday’s Unpacked, with him explaining that he had been struck down by a sore throat, as he appeared on the I’m A Celebrity spin-off alongside Dec.
