The BBC Scotland headquarters in Glasgow has been evacuated this morning after a fire broke out in the building.

It is believed the blaze was discovered in a plant room on the fifth floor of the Pacific Quay building at roof level.

A fire alarm went off at around 6:30am on Monday, December 1, and all staff were forced to leave the building.

BBC Radio Scotland Breakfast was taken off air and breakfast television bulletins were suspended while staff were evacuated from the building.

The Breakfast show switched to pre-recorded music and then went on to feature Radio 5 Live in its place.

The show, presented by Martin Geissler and Laura Maciver, came back on air shortly after 8.30am.

Speaking about the incident, they told listeners: “Our apologies… it’s been quite the morning. We had a fire in the building and for the last two hours we have been outside waiting for the… it wasn’t just a dry run, it wasn’t a false alarm, there was a proper fire. We could see flames on the roof of the building from outside but the fire is out.

“The firefighters have gone and we’re back with you.”

Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
