Celtic’s win at Hibs certainly wasn’t without its controversies.

Martin O’Neill saw out his second-to-last game as he watched Celtic beat Hibs at Easter Road to close the gap to Hearts to two points.

The Celtic boss also had to watch the Bhoys concede a ridiculous penalty that made the win in the capital a lot closer than it really should have been.

And then there was Celtic defender Colby Donovan’s tackle on Hibs’ Jordan Obita which was seen as a yellow card offence and not a red, according to the amateur referees from the Rangers, Hearts and Hibs fan bases.

And now, with many Celtic fans arguing that the Hoops should have had a penalty against Hibs for the challenge on Hyunjun Yang, ex-FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg delivers his verdict.

There is an argument from Celtic supporters online that a penalty should have been awarded for the collision between Hyunjun Yang and Hibs’ Rocky Bushiri.

Unfortunately though, that argument was upheld by Clattenburg, who says VAR and the match referee Nick Walsh made the correct call.

Clattenburg told 67 Hail Hail, “There was a call for a penalty kick when Celtic’s Yang had a collision inside the penalty area with Rocky Bushiri.

“The correct decision not to award a penalty is correct.” Thoughts?

“The defender plays the ball with the head and there is a clash of heads as Yang comes into the challenge.

“The decision not to award a penalty is correct.”

Celtic’s next fixture is far more important than Hearts

Celtic’s next fixture is against Dundee at Parkhead in the Scottish Premiership.

Win it, and Martin O’Neill heaps all the pressure back onto Hearts ahead of the big Celtic Park clash next Sunday.

Resuming their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership table will be a huge psychological boost to Celtic and a hammer blow to Derek McInnes’ side.

Because, after all, Hearts will have gone from a seven-point advantage to then chasing a four-point lead which not many teams outside of Glasgow can cope with.
