A popular Edinburgh cocktail bar has announced its sudden closure, just over a week after it announced its Hogmanay plans.

The Bon Vivant, which opened on the capital’s Thistle Street in 2008, shared the news in a post on social media on Monday, December 1.

It explained that “growing economic pressures” meant it was no longer viable for the venue to continue operating.

Customers with bookings over the festive period will be contacted and their deposits returned.

The bar had only put out a post on November 21 promoting its dinner sittings on Hogmanay, and encouraging people to book a table for a five-course feast.

It also expressed gratitude for support received over the years, and highlighted its dedicated team and loyal customers.

The post read: “We have taken the difficult decision to close Bon Vivant. Despite the commitment of our team and the loyalty of our guests, growing economic pressures mean that continuing to trade is no longer commercially viable.

“We have chosen to close now to give our customers as much time as possible to make alternative arrangements for the Christmas period.

“Provision has been made to return all customer deposits in full, and our team is contacting affected bookings to arrange refunds and assist with rebooking at alternative venues.

“We are deeply grateful for the support we have received over the years.”
