A famous Ormskirk venue has been named as one of the best boutique hotels in the country. The Top 50 Boutique Hotels awards are voted for by more than 200 hospitality and travel industry experts from across the country.

Each academy member has four votes they cast in order: position one being their top choice of boutique hotel, descending to number four, which is their fourth favourite choice. The votes have been counted and Ormskirk’s Moor Hall Restaurant and Rooms has been ranked in 15th place.

Moor Hall, located on Prescot Road in Aughton, opened in 2017 and received its first two Michelin stars in 2018 and 2019. In February this year, the venue reached the extraordinary heights of obtaining a third star, making it only the 10th in the UK to do so.

Located in a Grade II-listed building that dates back to the 13th century, the glass-fronted venue is set in five acres of gardens with its own lake.

Moor Hall has earned numerous accolades since opening, including AA Rosettes, a Michelin Green Star and multiple “best restaurant” titles from national critics and organisations.

The venue is now accredited as one of the best boutique stays in the country thanks to its seven ultra-luxurious bedrooms. Five of the rooms are in Moor Hall itself, while two others are situated in the gatehouse by the grand lake.

The Top 50 Boutique Hotels praised Moor Halls for its standard of life for guests, acknowledging its transportation services from airports and train stations.

The venue can also arrange private helicopter charters for up to nine guests. The facility is located close to the famous Open golfing venue of Royal Birkdale, as well as several other courses ranked among Britain’s Top 100 Gold Courses.

Moor Hall was recently named the second best restaurant in the country at the National Restaurant Awards 2025, beating its third place win in 2024.

Describing Moor Hall as “a true Lancashire gem”, the National Restaurant Awards said: “At Moor Hall the food really does the talking. The ambitious restaurant is tasting menu only, offering four and eight courses although guests can expect rather more than this in reality, such is the restaurant’s generosity when it comes to ‘extras’.

“A meal starts at the bar with a charcuterie selection before moving to the high-ceilinged room for the main event. A tour of the kitchen gardens is also part of the experience, weather permitting. It’s impressive stuff from a chef at the top of his game, one that marks Moor Hall out as a true Lancashire gem.”

Mark Birchall was also awarded Chef of the Year. The National Restaurant Awards said his “ambitious and brilliant cooking has long been revered, so it was no surprise to see his Lancashire restaurant receive three Michelin stars this year.”
