Owners of Bon Vivant, found on Thistle Street in the New Town, took to social media on Monday to share the news of the closure.
The post stated that “growing economic pressures” meant trade was “no longer commercially viable”.
The bar was opened in September 2008.

The post read: “We have taken the difficult decision to close Bon Vivant. Despite the commitment of our team and the loyalty of our guests, growing economic pressures mean that continuing to trade is no longer commercially viable.
“We have chosen to close now to give our customers as much time as possible to make alternative arrangements for the Christmas period.
“Provision has been made to return all customer deposits in full, and our team is contacting affected bookings to arrange refunds and assist with rebooking at alternative venues.
“We are deeply grateful for the support we have received over the years.”
In 2024, Time Out magazine said it was “still the best cocktail bar in Edinburgh,” writing: “Tucked away on Thistle Street in the New Town, the Bon Vivant has the external look of an informal eatery, and an internal décor dominated by warm, soft wood and candlelight: ersatz trad where no one really cares about the ersatz element.
“It feels comforting, the bistro-style menu is a major part of the experience and the venue has none of the aesthetic stridency associated with some twenty-first century cocktail vendors. But it does have kick-ass mixologists handling the spirits, should you wish to pop in for a drink, and they can make anything you want, as long as they have the ingredients to hand.”
Followers on social media replied to the post, writing: “Very sad to see this. Unique offer in Edinburgh, always a great experience. Hope the team gets looked after.”
