Emmerdale spoilers follow.

The next romance on Emmerdale has been teased, with Vinny Dingle displaying signs of affection towards Lewis Barton. Following the breakdown of his relationship with Gabby Thomas, has Vinny found a potential match?

Despite tying the knot back in September, Gabby broke up with Vinny following a storyline which saw him explore his sexuality. He was left devastated following the separation, and remains unaware that Gabby had cheated on him prior to the wedding.

Since the breakdown of the relationship, Vinny has been getting closer to Lewis, who arrived in the Dales back in May. Lewis provided a shoulder to cry on while Vinny had his troubles, and their bond has grown after they moved into a share house together.

In scenes set to air on Tuesday (9 December), Vinny can’t hide his excitement as he prepares for some alone time with Lewis. In addition to Vinny’s relationship troubles, the pair also bonded after Lewis explained his experiences with autism.

The plans come crashing down, however, when Vinny’s best friend Kammy Hadiq turns up, getting in the way of Vinny’s attempt to spend some time alone with Lewis. A disgruntled Vinny can’t hide his frustration, is it because of his growing romantic feelings for Lewis?

While we’ll have to wait to see if Vinny and Lewis’s bond grows, actors Bradley Johnson and Bradley Riches – who portray the respective pair – spoke exclusively with Digital Spy in October about their future on the soap.

“Vinny’s quite vulnerable. Lewis is a shoulder to cry on for Vinny and he’s been a great support,” said Johnson, who debuted as Vinny in 2019. “So those two characters together, I think work really well.”

“They’re just both geeky, loveable characters. It’s two unique people helping each other and supporting each other. It’s brilliant,” he continued, while Riches teased that the initial friendship could blossom into something deeper.

“It’s nice to see someone who’s not sure about themselves being welcomed by someone who is very sure of themselves,” explained the actor, who previously appeared on Heartstopper.

“Only time will tell [regarding their future]. I think at the beginning it’s definitely a friendship. I mean, every good relationship is based on friendship and that’s a good starting point, definitely!”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
