Young people find it hard to acquire or rent their own home, so many stay in the parental home for years after reaching adulthood.
According to Eurostat data, the percentage of young people in Greece who are paid the minimum wage but continue to live with their parents until they are 34 years old is 68%. This is the second highest rate in the EU, after Bulgaria, with 71%.
Even among young people who are paid amounts higher than the minimum wage, the percentage of those who live with their parents remains a high 42%, while in Denmark and Sweden the corresponding rates are 10% and 11%.
