WX Charts projects snowfall making landfall in England as soon as Friday, with the white stuff from around 9pm, and carrying on into December 6, after initial flurries on December 5.
Maps and charts show blotches of white, grey and purple as far south as Birmingham and the West Midlands conurbation. Maps show counties struck include Durham, Cumbria, Northumberland, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Northants, North Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Staffordshire, the West Midlands and Warwickshire.

In the short term, a Met Office forecast for Wednesday (December 3) states: “Sunshine and showers today, then rain for a time tomorrow.
“Scattered showers will develop in the west, across the far north of Scotland and across southernmost counties of England.
“Mostly dry with sunny spells elsewhere, once early fog clears. Temperatures near average, though breezy, especially in the north and west.”
The Met Office adds: “Some showers this evening, though clear spells across central and eastern areas.
“Turning wet and windy across many western and some southern parts overnight. Showers following into the southwest later.”
Its Thursday outlook, for December 4, continues: “Rain moving north and east across most areas.
“Brighter weather with showers developing across southern England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Remaining bright and showery across northeast Scotland. Breezy for many.”
And its outlook for Friday to Sunday adds: “Early fog, then bright and breezy, with fewer showers on Friday.
“Further wind and rain sweeping northeastwards through the day. Brighter with blustery showers on Saturday. Further rain on Sunday.”
The Met Office forecast has been published ahead of what looks likely to be a tumultuous week.
